Runaway Mine Train

The Runaway Mine Train is the ride responsible for making Katanga Canyon the amazing looking place it is today, as when it was built it completely opened up land that was once the ground occupied by the channel of the Congo River Rapids into a whole new land with its jungle theme.

Despite being made out of steel the ride has been made to look fantastic by being covered in wood, hiding most of the steel and making the entrance look like a giant wooden structure that leads you to a train to take you deep into the mine below.

The ride itself is powered the entire way round however this has not stopped it from achieving decent levels of speed. The track has been designed to make best use of its surroundings and at one point shares a tunnel used by the Congo River Rapids getting riders from both rides up close to each others often causing the passengers of each ride to cheer to each other.

Due to the high throughput of the ride and the relatively short amount of time it takes the train to complete the circuit most riders will find they are treated to two laps of the track and on some quite days 3. The high throughput also means that this ride often also has a relatively short queue compared to others in the park.
