Corkscrew

In its day Corkscrew was one of the biggest rides to hit Alton Towers, featuring the double inversion taking rides through a corkscrew twist (hence the name) the ride was an instant hit.

Since then the ride has grown increasingly known for its roughness. Unlike the super smooth B&M and Intamin coasters (Nemesis, Air, Oblivion and Rita) Corkscrew is unfortunately the complete opposite. One thing the ride does have above all the others though is its 10ft taller than them all! Due to planning restrictions, Alton Towers are not allowed to build above the tree line, when Corkscrew was built though they got away with painting the highest point green to blend in. Since then the rules for Alton Towers have become stricter and it is now something they are able to get away with any more.

For the best ride we recommend you sit at the very front of the train, giving you a perfect view as you go round. Like all coasters the back will feel faster as you go through the inversions but remember this is likely to give you a more painful ride to.
